Spirit Airlines Flight Cancels Landing After Being Hit By Gunfire

Yeah, that was probably a good idea.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but things in Haiti are pretty bad right now. Currently, the U.S. has a travel advisory against the country, saying that those who travel there are risking “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and limited health care” (gotta be honest, that last one doesn’t seem as bad as the first three).

But when has safety stopped Spirit Airlines?

Yesterday, a Spirit Airlines flight was attempting to land in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, when it got hit by gunfire, blowing small holes in the plane and causing minor injuries to a crew member.

Seeing this, the plane decided to *not* land in the place that just shot at it, and instead diverted to Santiago in the Dominican Republic. The airline said it would be temporarily suspending flights to the country and, upon hearing this news, JetBlue announced that it too had been hit by gunfire and that it would be suspending flights.

Good move!
