Twitch Tries to Double Team Creeps and the Confederate Flag

Twitch announced today a sizable update to their Terms of Service, mostly focusing on trying to make the platform less hospitable to jerks and assholes.

The changes go into effect in January and include specific bans on the Confederate flag, people wearing black face, encouraging doxing or swat calls, and "repeatedly commenting on someone’s perceived attractiveness."

These changes were met with a lot of questions and some mixed reactions, but the prevailing sentiment is that Twitch's employees probably aren't going to enforce a lot of this stuff, or it will just be twisted around by trolls and weaponized.

No social media or video hosting platform has ever successfully been fully family-friendly, so while these changes are meant well, they'll inevitably fall short. If you want online platforms to be complete safe spaces, you somewhat ironically, basically have to have an authoritarian government put it in a chokehold.
