Picture this, reader. It's September 12, 2001. You, a New Yorker, and a new parent are locked inside of your SoHo loft (it is the early aughts) with your finicky child, one still reeling from a tragedy he has yet to understand. 

Despite all your efforts — aesthetic plates, pouring his water into his favorite blue sippy cup, allowing his bear to sit perched beside him on his high chair, he refuses to eat. While on the surface, his hunger strike is immensely relatable — you too have had nothing but black coffee and an Atkins bar (you cannot call Bella Hadid, considering she is five years old at this point) — he, a growing boy, needs nutrients. 

Exhausted, heartbroken, and terrified of the world unfolding before you — one your child will someday, God willing, traverse — a terrible, yet just-so-crazy-it-might-work ploy into your brain: The tried-and-true "here comes the airplane" ploy. Do you, a mourning New Yorker, jettison the unfolding terror in your beloved city?
